Modern and contemporary Arab intellectual history has been a developing field of scholarship in recent years. Whether it is renewed interest in the previous turn of the century Arab Renaissance (the nahda) or the exploration of the post-independence years, new studies have been emerging to revisit established histories or to shed new light on lesser known ones. In her lecture, Elizabeth Suzanne Kassab, Associate Professor of Philosophy at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, explores the philosophical and political significance of this history writing.
The lecture is part of the series "Contemporary Women Philosophers in Arab Countries. Intellectual Portraits" which aims to be an intellectual and philosophical contribution to the debate on Arab philosophy in a global perspective and, in particular, Arabic-speaking women philosophers.
It is a project of the Arab-German Young Academy of Sciences and Humanities (AGYA). The Arab-German Young Academy of Sciences and Humanities (AGYA) brings together excellent Arab and German scholars to face shared challenges and develop solutions through research cooperation.
The lecture will be presented in English. The talk will be followed by a welcome reception.
