Recovery efforts can include urban planning, legal actions, and geospatial technologies like 3D documentation, Building Information Modeling (BIM), and 3D mapping of buildings to monitor and restore post-war areas. One key tool is creating a "Digital Twin," a virtual replica of a building or city. These models help manage public land, track growth, and predict future changes. They also give a clear picture of the condition of heritage sites and the impact of past and planned restoration work.
In this presentation, Prof. Dr. Fabian Thiel and Dr. Rahaf Orabi look at Aleppo as a post-war city and give an insight into digital documentation tools and social land policy. They shed light on the crucial role publicly owned land plays in rebuilding war-damaged cities and protecting cultural heritage, advocating for the Syrian government to declare State Land Management as a key step in valuing and preserving public heritage sites.
Both experts will be present at the DAFG e.V. to answer questions and discuss with the audience.
