Reforms and current developments in labor law in the GCC countries in times of mega projects and major international events

Mega projects as well as major events of global importance such as the EXPO in Dubai and the Football World Cup in Qatar draw international public interest to the Arab Gulf States. With this event, we would like to examine to what extent this international attention and the associated discussions have led to reforms and changes in labor law in the GCC.

We are delighted that the internationally recognized expert on international labor law and working conditions, Renate HORNUNG-DRAUS, Managing Director Economics and International Affairs at the Confederation of German Employers' Associations (BDA); Vice-President of the International Organization of Employers (IOE); Vice-Chair of the Governing Body of the International Labor Organization (ILO), will introduce the topic.

These introductory remarks will be followed by key-notes from: Max TUNON, Head of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Project Office for the State of Qatar, Matthias THORNS, Deputy Secretary General of the International Organisation of Employers (IOE), and Ambet YUSON, General Secretary of the Building and Wood Workers’ International (BWI). Following the contributions, Mrs. Hornung-Draus will moderate the discussion and the audience will have the opportunity to ask questions and enter the discussion via the chat function of the Zoom software.
